Adding Points in May…

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” ― Ernest Hemingway

The May Photo Club Results were sent to me yesterday…and although I thought I would have better scores…I wanted to share…it may be helpful…I have to be honest, that I always feel a twinge of disappointment in the results…but such a phenomenal learning experience…and starting again…consistent continual improvement…added 6 points to my current level…if I just did the same next month…I would be⭐⭐⭐

Between 27 -32 this photo received 30 points…Listening to the judging…the comment was that the “background needed to be darkened”…our eyes are drawn to light and therefore away from the main subject…that is easy enough to correct in future photographs in post processing…

Criteria : Technical Quality, Creativity, Visual Appeal and Emotional/Intellectual Impact

Morning Welcome Silver 31

The comments on this photograph that it was a good photo with nice colors…nice placement…the softness was nice…but it needed to either be all soft or more in focus…not just the one center stamen…🤔

Evening Tumbleweeds Silver 32

One more point on this and it would have made Gold🥇but the “sharpening that I did in post processing created imperfections…”good story and made you want to be there”…”light was good”…

In listening to the judges for the complete monthly judging …I had a couple of additional takeaways…one is that the Title of the photograph is Important…it helps in the telling of the story that you were trying to portray…NOT SHARP IS A BIG “NO-NO”…a great photograph is one that keeps you interested and keeps you coming back …

…that is one of my most frustrating issues that I currently have…a great photo and it’s out of focus…something I’m realizing is that it is difficult to take a handheld “in-focus” shot …especially with Macro and Telephoto shots…really working on that aspect of my photography…learning to carry the tripod everywhere and time delayed setups…technical skills are my weakest point…but at least I know what I need to work on improving…

Talking about learning…yesterday I was so excited to learn a new photoshop skill…adding light rays to a photograph…we drove back from Cape St. Francis …it was cold and raining…I had not been able to get a photograph of the lighthouse that I really like…one of the tallest lighthouses in South Africa and still operational…

“The Seal Point Lighthouse was first lit on July 4, 1878 and still weathers the tempestuous climate of the Eastern Cape offering it’s indispensable guidance to ships entering the dangerous waters of Algoa Bay”

Out of the Camera Photo…Definitely boring…Nothing Inspiring
Work in Lightroom Created this Moody …A Little More Acceptable
Added Light Rays in Photoshop

Just Curious…which is your favorite? Black & White or Color? Let me know and the most favored…I’ll enter into competition…or maybe I should enter both and see what the judges have to say🤔

Lots of Love, Light and Blessings for Your Day…with the Sprinkle of Magic
