Hello, I'm Renée
I’m Renée Santiago, an American photographic artist and writer living in Gqeberha, South Africa. I’m drawn to what the day offers without announcing itself: dew gathering on a petal, mist lifting from the trees, salt wind along an empty pier. My camera helps me notice them; writing helps me stay with them.
Much of my looking begins in my garden, where flowers bloom year-round. I walk among succulents and blossoms with my camera, finding wonder in the design of every leaf and stem. This practice of truly looking has become a form of worship, a way of drawing closer to God and to the world around me.
South Africa has deepened that seeing. From its dramatic coastline to its unspoiled bushveld, it has taught me that every landscape and every creature is a gift, a reminder of the sacred woven through the fabric of life.
Some of what I share was made in seasons of gladness, and some in seasons of ache. Faith has steadied me through both, and it breathes through the prayers, poems, and reflections gathered here.
Here you’ll find photographs, poems, prayers, and stories, offered like open windows. Take what speaks to you, and let the rest go by.
The books on my shelf are made for my daughter, Noemi, who lives with cancer. Half of the profit from each one goes to her, and each is meant as a small lantern for whoever holds it.
I built this place for anyone who is weary or wondering, so that no one has to carry a hard day entirely alone. Come in, and stay as long as you need.
Come in from the wind. Sit awhile where the light is soft and nothing is asked of you. And when you go, may you carry a little of the quiet with you.
With love,
Renée
