"The act of seeing transforms the seen." Unknown
In last week’s reflection, we asked: How many moments of love have passed us by, unnoticed?
And how many times have we been too busy to truly see? Today, we continue that journey-not just looking at love, but seeing through love.
What Happens When We Choose to See with Love?
The world speaks in a quiet language—one of tender gestures, unspoken kindness, and fleeting moments of connection. But how often do we truly see it?
Seeing through love is not about blind optimism. It does not ignore the weight of suffering or pretend the shadows do not exist. Instead, it asks us to look beyond—to find the flickers of light, the hands that reach out, the hearts that persist despite hardship.
🌍 A Story of Brokenness and Beauty
In South Africa, I have seen both hardship and hope, woven together like threads of the same tapestry. There is struggle, yes—but there is also resilience. There is pain, yet within it, an unshakable spirit of generosity and grace.
To See Differently is to Live Differently
When we shift our vision to see through love, we also begin to act through love.
✨ What if every interaction became an opportunity for kindness?
✨ What if every photograph became a way to capture and share light?
✨ What if every moment became an invitation to recognize love?
Shifting Our Vision: How Seeing Differently Transforms the Way We Live
To see differently is to shift our perspective—choosing to view the world through a lens of curiosity, openness, and love. Here are a few ways we can begin to see differently and, in turn, live differently:
1. Embrace a Beginner’s Mind 🧠
We often see the world through filters of past experiences and assumptions. But what if we looked at things as if for the first time? A beginner’s mind allows us to approach life with fresh curiosity, free from judgment or expectation.
Try this:
- Spend a day observing the world as if you were seeing it for the first time.
- Let go of “knowing” and simply experience—notice the details, colors, sounds, and interactions around you.
2. Reframe Challenges as Invitations 🌱
What if every challenge wasn’t a roadblock, but a doorway? When we shift from seeing difficulties as obstacles to viewing them as opportunities for growth, we begin to navigate life with greater resilience and purpose.
Try this:
- The next time you feel frustrated, pause and ask: What can this moment teach me?
- Shift from Why is this happening to me? to How can this help me grow?
3. Practice Seeing Through Someone Else’s Eyes 👀
True connection begins when we step outside our own viewpoint and try to see the world from another’s perspective. Compassion deepens when we take a moment to understand someone else’s story.
Try this:
- The next time you disagree with someone, pause. Ask yourself: What might they be feeling? What experiences shaped their view?
- Spend time with someone from a different background and listen—really listen—to their experiences.
4. Shift from “Looking” to “Seeing” 📷
Looking is passive; seeing is intentional. When we slow down and truly observe, we notice what was once invisible—beauty in small details, kindness in unexpected places, light in the ordinary.
Try this:
- Take a short walk and challenge yourself to find five beautiful things you’ve never noticed before.
- Practice photography as a form of mindfulness—capturing not just what’s in front of you, but how it makes you feel.
5. Focus on What You Can Give, Not Just What You Can Get 💛
A life of meaning is built not on accumulation but on contribution. When we shift from What can I gain? to How can I give?, we begin to live with more joy, gratitude, and purpose.
Try this:
- Perform one small act of kindness each day—without expecting anything in return.
- Make a habit of expressing gratitude for the people in your life.
🌿 Seeing differently is a choice—one that transforms not just our perspective, but our entire way of living. When we shift how we see, we shift how we love, create, and connect.
